Peace is the absence of sadness, of tension, and also, of happiness

Happiness versus Peace

There is a difference between happiness and peace.

  • Happiness is a state of emotion and physical body that is positively excited, feels good, and overwhelm the consciousness with positive state of being
  • Sadness, opposite to happiness, is a state where the body and emotions are negatively excited, feels bad or down, and overwhelms the consciousness with negative state of being

Both happiness and sadness are excited states. Also, they are associated with events or memories of events: success, failure, gatherings with loved ones, separation thereof … etc. They are therefore temporary, boxed in time.

So, they are temporary excited states.

But what’s important is the state where you are neither happy nor sad, which is most of the time. You can be either at peace, or in tension.

Peace is the permanent state of being where no tension exists, the emotions and the heart are not excited, not happy and not sad. Not in tension either.
It is the result, and the indicator of, good and bad management of the self. If you are at peace, it’s an indicator that the right routines are running in yourself. And vice versa.
